Neutral foot type

By Gary Gallagher

normal guy walking

This is the most common foot type, as about 60% of people have normal feet. If you have normal or neutral feet, the foot arches will always be visible, both when your feet are weight-bearing (e.g. when you walk or stand) and when they are non-weight-bearing (when you sit or lie down). If you look at your footprint, the ball (the front) of your foot and the heel will be well defined, and they should be joined by a strip that is about half the width of your mid-foot area.

When walking, your heels normally hit the ground first, and then your feet roll towards the front and your feet arches flatten. Next, your body weight is shifted onto the forefoot and your arches regain their usual shape. The normal walking pattern is the optimal one, as when your body weight is correctly distributed, the risk of injuries is lower.

Foot care, shoes and insoles

Even if you are lucky enough to have neutral foot type, you may still experience problems. This is particularly true if you have a very active lifestyle or if prolonged standing or walking is a part of your job. Feet structure may also change due to aging or changes in body weight. If you experience any pain or problems with your feet, it is important to address them immediately to avoid any injuries or complications.

No matter what your foot type is, wearing comfortable, well-fitting shoes is a key factor contributing to your feet’s health. Badly fitting shoes can cause numerous foot problems and worsen some already existing conditions. If appropriate footwear is particularly important to you because of your work or your lifestyle, wearing custom-made insoles in your shoes will help maintain the health of your feet while adding more comfort. Custom insoles will provide extra support for your feet, enhance shock absorption and give your feet additional cushioning. Custom-made shoe inserts, crafted to match your feet, will also help align your body properly and prevent injuries

Dr Insole’s custom orthotics

flat feet pain

Dr Insole’s custom-made insoles can significantly improve your feet’s comfort. To make our insoles, we first take casts of your feet, which we fill with special plaster. They help us determine which areas of your feet need extra support or control and become a basis for creating your orthotics. We also use pressure pads to analyse how your body weight is distributed when you walk, which helps us identify any possible problems with your walking pattern. Such a detailed analysis allows us to create perfectly fitting, most accurate orthotics that will give you all the support and comfort that your feet need.
