achilles tendon rupture drawing

Recovering from Achilles tendon rupture can be a long process, often involving wearing a plaster cast or an orthotic brace for 6 to 8 weeks, sometimes a surgical procedure on the tendon, followed by numerous physiotherapy sessions. When the treatment is completed and the cast or brace is removed, the rehabilitation process starts in order to strengthen the Achilles tendon and the muscles and to allow them to regain their mobility and flexibility. Returning to the original level of fitness and activity may take between 6 and 9 months.

Persistent pain and long period of restricted mobility after Achilles tendon rupture may leave you feeling vulnerable and cautious when walking and resuming physical activity, as your muscles may feel weak, and you will not want to risk the injury occurring again. It is, however, extremely important to implement a rehabilitation programme early for a faster, more successful recovery. Doing exercises recommended by your physiotherapist will help you restore the range of motions and the muscle strength.

How can custom-made insoles help in the rehabilitation process?

orthotic insole support

Wearing custom-made insoles which are specially designed to supplement the rehabilitation process after the Achilles tendon rupture can give you much needed support and comfort, and help regain confidence in your steps. Springy, flexible materials used in our custom-made orthotic insoles take the pressure and the load off the Achilles tendon. That reduces the irritation of the tendon and helps accelerate the healing processes. To ensure that your orthotic insoles are fully effective, they are custom-made with the level of protection and cushioning and the degree of arch support individually chosen to match your feet. Our customised insoles will also help correct any specific biomechanical issues (such as overpronation or oversupination) to reduce the risk of further foot and leg injuries.
