Ankle Sprains

ankle sprain illustration

Although they are considered to be a minor injury, ankles sprains can be extremely painful and can leave you unable to walk properly for a number of weeks. Sprains will be graded on a scale of 1-3 depending on how severe they are, with 3 being the most severe. An ankle sprain normally involves damage to the ankle ligaments, ranging from a slight strain to a full-on tear. Bruising and swelling is a common occurrence with ankle sprains.

ankle sprains treatment

If you think that you have sprained your ankle, the first thing to remember is the RICE acronym. This stands for: Rest – Make sure you put as little weight as possible on the injured ankle. Ice – Apply an ice pack (a pack of frozen peas will do) to the affected area to reduce any swelling that may occur. Compression – Make sure an adequate amount of pressure is applied to the injured area (be careful not to apply too much), this will further help reduce the swelling. Elevate – slightly raise the affected leg to reduce the amount of blood and fluid reaching the ankle. If you are in severe pain, be sure to contact your local GPs for them to rule out any chance of a break.

How our insoles could help.

support for ankle

Our aim is to create insoles that will help prevent a sprained ankle. The majority of these injuries are caused by the foot ‘rolling over’ and a walking pattern that supinates is more likely to lead to a sprain. Dr.Insole can create a pair of bespoke insoles that helps to neutralise your walking pattern, making it less likely for an ankle sprain to occur. This would be perfect for people that have a history of ankle sprains.

Each pair of insoles from Dr.Insole are fully custom-made to perfectly fit each customer. They are handmade using tried and trusted techniques and materials that we have accumulated through years of experience. If you have not suffered from an ankle sprain but sometimes feel unstable on your feet, see how a pair of our insoles can help give you more confidence in each step.
